Much of this work was shot in my “off hours” as part of Chicago in the Year 2000 (CITY 2000) where I served as the digital imaging director. The yearlong project was the vision of Gary Comer to document everyday life in Chicago. At the turn of the millennium, more than 200 photographers captured each Chicago neighborhood, producing half a million images using processes dating from the 19th century to the present - which at the time meant both film and nascent digital cameras. The project culminated in a book and a cold-storage archive housed at University of Illinois at Chicago in the Richard M. Daley Library.
